Avid baseball fan worked at Parke Snow
WAKEFIELD — Francis (Frank) V. Geary Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 20, at the Golden Living Center in Melrose.
He resided in Wakefield for all of his life. Frank was an energetic individual who loved to play and watch baseball. Frank could be seen many a night playing baseball on the shores of Lake Quannapowitt. During baseball season he enjoyed many games on his TV and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.
Every town has its own “walking man” and Frank was Wakefield’s walking man. He never obtained a driver’s license and for that reason he walked everywhere. Many residents of Wakefield have a “Frank story” and the stories seem to bring them happiness as they describe seeing Frank pass them by as he walked to Stoneham, Reading or even as far as Malden. His smile was infectious and warm.
Frank worked at Parke Snow Department Store and was the head of shipping and receiving. He also worked at the Colonial Restaurant before retiring.
Frank was predeceased by his wife Mary (McGrath) Geary; his father, Francis Vincent Geary; his mother, Evelyn (LaFave) Geary; his sister, Jean (Geary) MacKilligan and her husband Howard MacKilligan. He leaves behind his two nephews: William MacKilligan and his wife Dr. Kristine Bertini of Kennebunk, Maine and Bob MacKilligan and his partner Jesse Durko of Davie, Fla.; his four nieces: Kellsy MacKilligan of Charlestown, Courtney (MacKilligan) Alling and her husband Erik of Colchester, Vt. and Mimi MacKilligan and Jade MacKilligan, both of Kennebunk, Maine.
A spring graveside service is being planned. Arrangements are in the care of the McDonald Funeral Home.
