Romano-obit-webMELROSE — Rose M. Romano, 93, of Melrose and formerly of Wakefield, died at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on March 3.

Rose was born and raised in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School and Burdett Business School. She resided in Wakefield for many years and the past 19 years in Melrose. Rose was employed by May & Gannon for 20 years, John P. Chase for 20 years and Loomis Sayles & Co. for five years.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crossword puzzles. She was a talented seamstress and made many outfits for her nieces and herself. Rose was a prolific reader and an excellent flower gardener. Family was most important to Rose. She was always there for them and loved them unconditionally.

Rose will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She volunteered at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital and was a longtime member of St. Joseph Church in Wakefield.

Rose was the loving daughter of the late Peter and Mary Romano. She was the caring sister of the late Lena Rotondi and Anthony Romano. She was the devoted aunt of Susan Rotondi, Elaine Rotondi, both of Melrose, and the late Peter Rotondi. She was the great aunt of Nicole Maynard-Sahar and her husband Dr. Christoph Sahar of Rhode Island. She was the great-great-aunt of Lucas Sahar of Rhode Island. She was the cousin of Esther Seip and her husband Joseph of Reading. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday, March 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St., Wakefield at noon.

Burial will be private.
