PEABODY — Elsa A. (Bishop) Moylan, 93, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, died on Oct. 20.
Elsa was born in Saugus and raised in Charlestown. At the age of 17, she moved to Malden, where she resided for 50 years, later moving to Melrose for 13 years. She was a graduate of Charlestown High School, Class of 1945, and of Bunker Hill Community College. She was a longtime member of the Mystic Side Congregational Church.
Elsa was the beloved wife of the late John F. Moylan for 60 years. Loving mother of Carol E. Moylan of Virginia, Nancy Connors and her husband Bill of Peabody, John Moylan and his wife Carol of Milton, Thomas Moylan and his wife Christina of Melrose, Kenneth Moylan and his wife Joanne of Reading, and Laura Sampson and her husband Roland of Melrose. She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Bishop and wife Marcelle, her sister Margaret Bishop, her brother Roy Bishop and wife Janie, and her sister Evelyn Smith and husband Norman. Elsa was also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Elsa was a loving and caring full-time mother. She enjoyed fitness and nutrition all her life. She participated in multiple health studies for Tufts Medical Center and the Joslin Clinic.
Elsa volunteered for many years at the Dexter House Nursing Home, leading patients in prayer and song weekly. She was a night owl who loved reading, PBS shows and visiting friends and family over a cup of tea. She had lifelong friends from high school, called the “Charlestown Club,” who got together on a regular basis. She enjoyed traveling, visiting many states and countries throughout the world. She had a great sense of humor and always saw the best in people.
Due to the current health crisis, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Elsa’s name to the Visiting Nurse & Community Care, 37 Broadway, Arlington, MA 02474.
