MELROSE — The Melrose School Committee has announced that Superintendent-elect Adam Deleidi has signed his contract to become the city’s next superintendent of schools, beginning on July 1.

Solidifying the agreement six months prior to his official start date, Deleidi will have the opportunity to prepare for the transition, within the capacity of his current professional role, alongside Interim Superintendent John Macero, allowing for a smooth entrance once his term officially begins.

Deleidi, a resident of Wakefield, currently serves as the deputy superintendent of the Chelsea Public Schools. A career educator with expansive experience in the commonwealth, he has previously served in Revere, Saugus and Chelsea as a middle school mathematics teacher, an instructional coach, an elementary school principal and a district-wide assistant superintendent of student services.

Following a lengthy and thorough hiring process, which included numerous opportunities for community input and participation, the Melrose School Committee deliberated on a group of three finalists. The School Committee voted to appoint Deleidi in early December, pending contract negotiations. School Committee Chair Margaret Driscoll said the committee was impressed by his “strong teaching and learning expertise, articulation of core values, grasp of key priorities for the district, and enthusiasm for joining the Melrose schools community.”

“The committee is delighted to welcome Mr. Deleidi to our school family to share the joy of learning experienced every day in our schools, and lead an ever-evolving instructional landscape in our beautiful city that builds on our many traditions and practices in a hopeful, innovative and sustainable way,” said Driscoll.

Deleidi expressed his excitement for coming to Melrose.

I am elated to be appointed as superintendent-elect for Melrose Public Schools,” said Deleidi. “I look forward to getting to work and getting to know this vibrant and passionate community. I would also like to acknowledge all of the hard work and dedication that went into the search process. It is a true indication of the commitment of so many in the Melrose community.

Driscoll said, “The School Committee looks forward to a successful superintendent transition, with various opportunities for stakeholder engagement beginning in the summer, benefiting students and families throughout the district.”
