WAKEFIELD – Alan Hoey, 84, of Wakefield, died peacefully October 24, 2019, from complications due to acute myeloid leukemia, surrounded by his loving wife of 58 years, Rita (Parziale) Hoey, and his son, Steven Alan Hoey, of Somerville.

Al was born in Winthrop in 1935 to Lloyd Francis Hoey and Dorothea (Schueler) Hoey, but did most of his growing up on Upham Street in Melrose. After attending Melrose High School, Kimball Union Academy, and St. Lawrence University, Al began work selling printing supplies and equipment for Chemco Photoproducts Company. He steadily expanded his territory and responsibilities, and remained with the company after it was bought by Konica Imaging. He retired after more than 40 years of service, having received many honors and accolades for his sales to printers, magazines, and newspapers throughout New England.

Al was a lifelong fan of all sports, but had a special place in his heart for the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins. He was also an avid golfer, and longtime active member of Indian Ridge Country Club in Andover. He touched everyone he met with his kindness, and leaves behind many heartbroken friends and relatives.

In addition to his wife and son, Al is survived by his sister Lois (Hoey) Burr, of Carlisle, Penn.; his brother-in-law Vincent A. Parziale, of Padre Island, Texas; his sister-in-law Cheryl (Moulaison) Parziale, of West Barnstable (wife of the late John J. Parziale); his sister-in-law Shirley (Ladner) Parziale of Blackstone (wife of the late Gerard T. Parziale); and by their many children and grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home 79 W. Foster St. in Melrose on Monday, October 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Funeral services and burial will be private.
