WAKEFIELD — Alan J. Coffin, 79 of Wakefield, formerly of Stoneham, died on March 1, 2018 at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. He was born in Maine on October 13, 1938 and was the son of the late George and Winifred (Thomas) Coffin.

Al was the beloved husband of Jean M. (Lucreziano) Coffin. He was the loving father of Karen Perriello and her husband Lou of Wakefield, Pam Silipigni and her husband Joe of Saugus, Kathy Sacco and her husband Tom of Stoneham, and Mary Ann Schafer and her husband Eric of Billerica. Al was the brother of Paul Gerald and his wife Peggy, Shelby Sutherburg and her husband Lee, Carolyn Slade, Allison Coffin and her husband Don, and Jane Gerald and her husband Sonny, all of Maine, and the late Rodney Gerald, Mary Pooler, and Vernon Coffin. He was the brother-in-law of Dan Pooler. Al was the cherished grandfather of Michael and Kristi Perriello, Carly Sacco, Erica and Brady Schafer, and Alan Silipigni. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Al was a graduate of Hampden Academy and attended Husson College of Maine and Suffolk University. He was a Navy veteran, and had a great compassion for all those who served in the military. Al was a Wakefield resident for 23 years and was the former owner of Fair Winds Travel of Stoneham. In his later years, he worked for Massport. He was a member of the Stoneham Rotary Club, Bear Hill Golf Club, North Shore Old Car Club, and a past President for Wakefield WRTC.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Tuesday at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield at 10 a.m. Visitation for relatives and friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Interment, Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
