Self-employed painter, served in U.S. Army
SAUGUS — Albert E. Duncan, 88, of Saugus died on Wednesday, Oct. 8 in Melrose surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New Brunswick, Canada on March 20, 1926, he was the son of the late Harold and Rita (Trites) Duncan.
Mr. Duncan was raised and educated in New Brunswick, Canada and later moved to Saugus. He then enlisted in the military and served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Duncan was a retired self-employed painter and had also worked as a reconditioning supervisor for Patkin Cadillac in Malden and at Lesley College as a painter. Albert enjoyed going back to New Brunswick on vacation, taking care of his garden and his lawn and stopping at yard sales and flea markets. He was also an avid Red Sox fan and never missed a game.
Mr. Duncan will be missed as a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Helen E. (Conrad) Duncan; his three daughters Linda Berthold and her late husband John L. of Charlotte, N.C.; Nancy Saxton and her husband Warren of Salem, N.H. and Donna McCarthy of North Carolina. Mr. Duncan is also survived by his eight grandchildren Kellie, Robin, Kim, Krista, Bob, Kate, Chris and Alex and his eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his seven brothers Cameron Duncan, Russell Duncan, Lovell Duncan, Harold Duncan Jr., Wayne Duncan, Gerald Duncan and Robert Duncan and his sister Priscilla Wardell.
Funeral services will be held at a later date for family and friends.
