Decorated WWII Veteran

PEABODY – Mr. Albert Richard Barrows 95, of Peabody, beloved husband of Marguerite M. (Barrett) Barrows, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at his home.
Born in East Weare, N.H., he was the son of the late Albert S. and Antoinette (Knowles) Barrows. He was raised in Danvers and graduated from the former Holten High School in 1939. After serving his country he graduated from Boston University in 1948 earning his degree in Business Administration.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army Aircorps. Sargent Barrows earned the Distinguished Unit Badge for valor, while serving in the Air Offensive Europe, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was very proud of his service to his country and the lifelong friends with whom he served.
As a young accountant, Mr. Barrows worked for many private firms throughout the United States. He then began a career as an Internal Auditor with the Internal Revenue Service that would last for over 20 years until the time of his retirement.
A loving husband, father and grandfather, Al was a member and organizer for the US Veterans, 352nd Fighter Group. He made many friends and connections that latest throughout his life. He was an avid Family genealogist and quite proud of tracing his family history to colonial times.
A tinkerer by nature, Al loved to fix things. He was always working on cars and projects around the house and for friends. His love of family was always the most important thing in his life and he will be deeply missed.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Marguerite M. (Barrett) Barrows of Peabody, his children, John Barrows and his wife Lynda of Danvers and their children, Jake, Andrew and Rachael, Bill Barrows and his wife Marie of North Reading and their children, Ryan and Jenna, Peter Barrows and Sue MacKay of Georgetown, Julie Aylward and her husband James of Reading and their daughter Heather, Bob Barrows and his wife Jess of Rowley and their children Colin and Maisey, his sister, Barbara Garron of Shapleigh, Maine and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Raymond S. Barrows.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Saturday, March 4th at 12:30 P.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
