WAKEFIELD — Alice J. Hudson, longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Friday, July 30, 2021, at the age of 99.
Alice was predeceased by her loving husband, Roy G. Hudson, with whom she shared over 40 years of marriage. Loving mother of Linda Edwards and her husband, David of Wilmington; the late Maureen Tyrie and her surviving husband, William. Loving step-sister of the late Walter, Floyd, and Edwin Parsons. Proud grandmother of Sandra Johnston and her husband, Barrett of Medway; Susan Blake and her husband, Travis of Derry, NH; Michael Edwards and his wife, Carolyn of Townsend; and Andrea Skoog and her husband, Erik of Wilmington. Cherished great-grandmother of Collin, Ryan, Amy, Madison, Erin, Samuel, Landon, Isaac, and Zachary. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Chelsea on September 22, 1921, she was the only child of the late Isaac and Margaret (Shields) Legrow. She attended Chelsea Public Schools and moved to Wakefield where she raised her family and lived for over 60 years. She worked in food services at Wakefield High School, then went on to work at Analog Devices for many years.
Alice’s faith was an anchor in her life, and she was a sixty-year member of the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church. She served on various groups and committees and could always be found volunteering in the kitchen at the various church events. She was also an active member of the Masonic Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, and was on the Advisory Board of the Rainbow Girls Group.
Outside of church, Alice’s great loves were her family, church family, and her friends. She was a social person, and the connections she made with others was her strength. A great listener, Alice could be counted on by anyone to lend an ear and give solid advice.
Alice was exceptionally active in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She could often be found on the sidelines of a sporting event or in the audience of a performance or classroom, proudly cheering on her family.
Alice was a source of strength, love, support, kindness, and friendship. Her sense of humor, love of life and family will be missed by all that were touched by her.
Relatives and friends will gather in honor and remembrance of Alice’s life during visiting hours at the Wakefield-Lynnfield United Methodist Church, 273 Vernon St., Wakefield on Wednesday, August 4 from 10-11 a.m., followed by her funeral service celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
