CAMBRIDGE — Freshman Chris Anastasiades captured his first North Sectional title ever last weekend by winning the Boys’ 200 Individual Medley. On Sunday in the Div. 2 State Meet at Harvard University’s Blodgett Pool, the ninth grader topped even that performance.

Anastasiades was crowned the champion in the Boys’ 200 Individual Medley and the Boys’ 100 Butterfly, the two events he competed in.

In addition, senior Madison Guay had a couple of fine individual performances including a seventh place finish in the Girls’ 100 Breaststroke.

Also Wakefield had all three relays teams entered and all swam well.

“We had a good day,” said Coach Kathy Byrne. “They all swam close to their best times. We had a small team but we made it to the Div. 2 State Meet. It was a good meet overall and it was a great way to end the season.”

Anastasiades beat out another freshman, Advanced Math & Science’s Aidan McDonald, in the Boys’ 200 Individual Medley. Anastasiades clocked in at 2:13.32 while McDonald swam a time of 2:22.28.

The Warrior freshman won the Boys’ 100 Butterfly easily given that he was the only entry in the event. Anastasiades, despite not having another swimmer to push him, clocked in under a minute as he posted a time of 59.88 seconds.

Guay, a senior captain, grabbed seventh place overall in the Girls’ 100 Breaststroke. Guay timed in at 1:12.67.

Guay also swam the Girls’ 100 Butterfly and finished in 14th place with a time of 1:03.93.

The Warriors also had three relay teams that qualified for the meet.

In the Girls’ 200 Individual Medley Relay, Wakefield secured a 14th place finish in a time of 2:04.28. The four swimmers included Guay, senior Nicole Pecjo, senior Taylor Guarino and sophomore Caroline Sweeney.

Wakefield also had a 14th place showing in the Girls’ 200 Freestyle Relay. Pecjo, senior Victoria Tringale, Sweeney and Guarino combined to swim a time of 1:51.56.

The Warriors secured 12th place in the Girls’ 400 Freestyle Relay in a time of 4:05.30. The four swimmers were Pecjo, Guarino, Sweeny and Guay.

As a team, the girls finished in a two-way tie for 14th place with North Andover with 37 points. In the boys’ team total, Wakefield finished fourth with 40 points.
