Ann-Gleason-obit-webMELROSE — Ann M. (Madden) Gleason passed away at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on Jan. 27. She was only 67 years old.

Ann was born in Melrose on Jan. 29, 1948 to the late Thomas and Ann (Herlin) Madden. She was raised in Melrose, graduated from St. Mary Grammar School and Melrose High School. Ann lived in Melrose for many years, Everett for a few years and Malden for the past 20 years. Mrs. Gleason worked as a unit secretary at the Whidden Hospital in Everett for 35 years. She enjoyed going to Long Sands Beach in York, Maine every year. She loved the coast of Maine, the ocean and all the beautiful lighthouses along the coast. She enjoyed dancing; especially the Waltz, and trying out all different restaurants with her longtime companion, Patrick.

Ann was the devoted mother of John F. Gleason Jr and his wife Robin and Bryan T. Gleason and his wife Joanne, all of Groveland; and Aine Healy and her husband Paul of Georgetown. She was the loving and longtime companion of Patrick Joseph Flaherty of Malden. She was the cherished grandmother of Robert, Stephanie, Cian, Emily, Coleman and Danny. She was the caring sister of Paul Madden of New Hampshire, Eleanor Casteel of Michigan, Kathy Flint of Lawrence, Elizabeth Sullivan of New Hampshire and the late Michael Madden and Margaret Chrisman. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose, on Tuesday, Feb. 2, followed by a funeral service. Burial took place at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.
