MELROSE — Anne “Sandy” (Lovell) Swenson, 77, a longtime resident of Melrose, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 23, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Sandy was born on May 16, 1939 in Waterville, Maine, daughter of the late Philip R. Lovell and Elizabeth (Thomas) Lovell. She was raised in Maine where she graduated from Ellsworth High School, Class of 1957. She received her bachelor’s degree from Colby College in 1961 and worked as a manager in Finance and Administration for NYNEX for many years. Sandy enjoyed golfing with her late husband Ed as a member of Bellevue Golf Club in Melrose, and Meadows Country Club in Sarasota, Florida. Sandy enjoyed being active in the Melrose community. She was a longtime devoted member of the First United Methodist Church. A genuine, caring person, Sandy took an active role as a member of Phi Theta Xi Sorority, and more recently, Melrose Rotary Club. She will be missed but remembered for her sincere, kind words for all. Sandy was the beloved wife of the late Edward E. Swenson with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. She was the stepmother of John C. Swenson of Providence, RI, Julie B. Brooks of Pittsfield, NH, and the late Lisa J. Swenson. She was the step grandmother of Aja Cudmore, Jared Worthen, Jory Worthen, Michael Swenson, Domenic Brooks, Daren Brooks, Kegan Brooks, and Kaylee Brooks. She was the step great-grandmother of Kenwyn Cudmore, George Edward Ellison III and Livia Worthen. Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Sandy during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Monday, March 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and for her funeral service at the First United Methodist Church, 645 Main St., Melrose on Tuesday at 9 am.
