MELROSE — Police continue to deal with at least one man who is living in the woods of Mt. Hood Park and Golf Course.

On Tuesday, November 25, police were called around 10:55 a.m. to an heard not far from the green of the 17th hole at the end of the parking lot to handle a report of a squatter. Police said they found what appeared to be a campsite and at least one propane gas tank but did not locate the individual dwelling illegally in the area.

Last summer, a man allegedly was living in the woods off the 13th hole. A police spokesman said he was not sure if this was the same person.

An elderly woman hit by a car while crossing Cottage Street at West Wyoming Avenue Monday, November 24 was seriously hurt and taken to Lahey Clinic where she was treated for internal bleeding.

Police said the woman was walking east on West Wyoming Avenue with a friend around 5:30 p.m. and was in a crosswalk when a motorist took a left from West Wyoming onto Cottage, striking the victim. Police were told the woman was lying in the road with significant head injuries.

The driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The victim was said to be wearing dark clothing and the rainy weather may have also been a factor.

A Vinton Street man reported November 24 that his debit card had apparently been compromised and $441.09 in unauthorized withdrawals had been conducted in Texas and California.

The report was logged around 3:45 p.m.

A 19-year-old Lynde Street man was charged with driving after his license had been revoked because he is considered an habitual traffic offender November 25 around 1 p.m.

Michael C. David, 142 Lynde St., was stopped by police on Vinton Street while driving a blue Ford Focus. A routine check with the Registry of Motor Vehicles showed his license had been revoked.

After he was arrested, police searched his car and allegedly found a set of brass knuckles near the driver’s side door. He was also charged with carrying a dangerous weapon.

On Wednesday, November 26, at 12:41 p.m. police were told that a woman walking on Lake Avenue towards Tremont Street was struck by a motorist backing out of a driveway. The victim reportedly had cuts on the back of her head and complained of back pain.

A minor motor vehicle accident was reported on Main Street near Starbuck November 26 around 6:50 p.m.

A banner hanging over Main Street near the YMCA was reported drooping down and resting just 10 feet off the ground early Thanksgiving morning, November 27. The caller was concerned about the problem this could pose to trucks. The DPW was notified.

At 9:26 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, a Slayton Road resident said a vehicle was speeding on the street, almost hitting some neighborhood dogs. The vehicle was last seen heading towards the Melrose Fish & Game Club.

At 10:36 a.m. November 27, a Lebanon Street called police reporting water in the basement of the home. Firefighters responded and turned the water supply off.

A hockey net was reported in the middle of the Ardsmoor Road-Porter Street intersection around 12:15 p.m. November 27.

At 5:11 p.m. November 27, an Oak Street resident was reportedly choking.

On Friday, November 28, police reported that road surfaces were beginning to ice up around 1:40 a.m. The DPW was notified.

A desk officer monitoring cameras in the dispatch area of the police station reported seeing someone inside City Hall around 9:25 a.m. The building was supposed to be closed for the holiday weekend. Another checked out the situation and found a door unlocked. The person seen on camera could not be located.
