MYF 5th-6th football knocks out Medford 13-12 for crown

MELROSE — The Melrose Youth Football 5th-6th grade team Apaches are champions after beating Medford 13-12 in the Commonwealth Youth Football Conference Championship on Saturday

The Apaches, coached by Mike Capaldo, Scott Thomas, Mark Rowe and Dan Hanley, beat Watertown in the first round which advanced them to play Medford this weekend. Scoring for Melrose were Brendan Fennell and Michael Gizzi, who scored the first and second Melrose touchdowns, and Gavin Crowley who kicked the game winning extra point. The result was a 13-12 championship win, which capped off their fine 10-1 season for Melrose.

Suiting up for the Apaches this fall were Brendan Fennell, Gavin Crowley, Kojee Khang, Joseph Denton, Jake Petitpas, Joseph McNeely, Jake Rowe, Robert Colozzo, Anthony DelGenio, Michael Overlan, Tyler Tobin, Shane Murphy, Jan Mejia, Salvatore Franco, Matthew Hickey, Carmen Avola, Robert Boyle, John McDonough, Liam Whelan, Francis Capaldo, Luke Maher, Justin Camelio, Joseph Whitley, Christopher Gill, Daniel Acevedo, Robert Avola, Jackson Thomas, Max Petitpas, Matt Mussault, Samuel Rossi, Ryan Hanley, Thomas Sullivan and Andrew-Norton Jefferson.
