WWII veteran was an avid golfer

Ahlquistobit-webWAKEFIELD — Arnold H. Ahlquist Jr., 89, of Wakefield, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 4, 2017.

He was the beloved husband of 60 years to Marilyn L. (Rhodes).  He was the cherished father of Susan J. Ahlquist, Peter A. Ahlquist and wife Eileen of Reading, Karen L. Ruecker and husband Oliver of Lynnfield, and David A. Ahlquist and wife Julie of Stow. He was the devoted grandfather of Matthew, Jonathan, David, Jennifer, Jonah, Audrey, Alexander, Andrew and Lars.

He leaves many friends and an extended family.

Arnie was a 1945 graduate of Lynn English High School. A World War II veteran, he proudly served the U.S. Army in Germany in 1945.

He was a longtime employee of Recording & Statistical in Dorchester.

Arnie was an avid golfer who also enjoyed gardening and photography.

Papa was a master storyteller, and his memory will live on in the telling of these stories.

Funeral services will be held at Union Congregational Church, 148 Haverhill St. in North Reading on Saturday, March 11 at 11 a.m.

A celebration of Arnie’s life will follow immediately at the church.
