Selectmen announce water use restrictions

“This is a message from the Town of North Reading.
Reduced rainfall this spring has caused a shortage in available water. As a result of this shortage, the Town has instituted a Stage 1 water use restriction. A Stage 1 restriction limits lawn watering to two times per week between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM as follows: residents with odd numbered addresses may water lawns on Tuesday and Friday only; residents with even numbered addresses may water lawns on Wednesday and Saturday only. Residents with automatic sprinkler systems are advised to check their system settings to ensure compliance, and to verify that system rain sensors are working. The Town suggests residents set their system “as needed” between 4 AM – 7 AM or 7 PM to 10 PM. “As needed” may be as little as 30 minutes per zone.
The following activities are permitted, although the public is asked to voluntarily limit these activities: swimming pool filling; washing of cars, trucks, boats, or buildings; and cleaning of driveways and sidewalks.
