Robertsobit-webSOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Barbara Davis Roberts, 94, formerly of Warwick, RI, and most recently of South Kingstown, RI, passed away peacefully on April 1.

She was predeceased by her husband, William Martin Roberts; they were married for 50 years.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Gertrude Davis (Kahn) and the Reverend Charles H. Davis, pastor emeritus of the Greenwood Union Church in Wakefield. She was the sister of the late Phillips C. Davis of Wakefield and the twin sister of the late Nancy B. Davis of Saratoga Springs, NY.

Barbara grew up in Wakefield and was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1940. She was an accomplished athlete and excelled especially in tennis and field hockey.

She went on to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, received a master’s degree in Education from Smith College and was certified in guidance and counseling from the University of Rhode Island.

Barbara taught at Classical High School, Springfield, Mass., and Boston University’s Sargent College of Physical Education.

Barbara moved to Rhode Island in 1957 and worked in the Warwick school system for 20 years as a physical education teacher and a guidance counselor.

Barbara is survived by her son Tobias M. Roberts and his wife Stephanie of Narragansett, RI, son Charles P. Roberts of North Kingstown, RI, daughter Nancy R. Ransohoff and her husband Kurt of Santa Barbara, CA, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will be private.
