STONEHAM — Barbara C. Graves, 97, of Stoneham, died on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Bear Hill Nursing Center.

Born in Wakefield on December 20, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Reta (Lovejoy) Carelton.

Mrs. Graves was a graduate of Wakefield High School, Class of 1939. She was a lifelong member of the Greenwood Union Church in Wakefield, acted as treasurer for 13 years, helped and ran the Senior Citizen Group and was a member of the women’s group. Mrs. Graves was also a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Middlesex County where she served as past President and was also Treasurer for 17 years. Mrs. Graves loved to travel to her daughter’s home in Newfound Lake in New Hampshire to sit on the porch and also loved family time above all.

She was the wife of the late Robert M. Graves. Mrs. Graves is survived by her daughter Judith A. Wilcox and her husband Douglas of Bridgewater, N.H., her two sons; James R. Graves and his wife Marilyn of Nashua, N.H., and Kenneth A. Graves of Stoneham and her four grandchildren; Laurie Kneeland and her husband Jeff, Scott Jackson and his wife Teresa, Jay Graves and his wife Alexandra and Kathryn Harrington and her husband Brad. She is also survived by many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Graves was predeceased by her sister Edna M. Barnstead.

Her funeral service will be held in the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Wednesday at 12 noon. Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the funeral home prior to the service starting at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.
