Barbara-Martone-obit-MEL-LF-webMELROSE — Barbara R. (Ianachino) Martone, 81, passed away at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on March 20, 2017. Barbara was born in Boston, was raised in the West End of Boston and attended Girls High in Boston, which is the oldest girls high school in the United States. Mrs. Martone was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who had worked at New England Telephone Company as a switchboard operator for several years. She lived in Revere and Melrose for several years before settling in Wakefield. Barbara loved to cook, feed her family, the Red Sox, playing cards and Italian music. Mrs. Martone also loved taking trips to South Yarmouth on Cape Cod. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Martone. She was the loving mother of Patricia Zingariello and Gerry of Wakefield; Robert Martone of Malden; Lisa Paine and Robert of Lynnfield; Paula Penta and Edward of Middleton; Robin Flanagan and Joe Frisolone of South Easton; and the late Linda Martone. She was the proud grandmother of Nina, Carla, Santa, Christopher, Allie, Matthew, Brian, Steven, Brianna, Leah, Peter and Julia. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service was held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster St., Melrose on Saturday, March 25, 2017, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Mausoleum in Malden.
