Will host Concord-Carlisle in Div. 2 North first round game on Thursday

WAKEFIELD — The state tournament pairings were announced yesterday for baseball and Wakefield Memorial High will host a Div. 2 North first round game on Thursday afternoon at Walsh Field.

The Warriors (15-5) were seeded fourth in the 16-team Div. 2 North field and will take on 13th-ranked Concord-Carlisle (10-10) in a first round contest on Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. at Walsh Field.

The winner of the Wakefield/Concord-Carlisle game will play in a quarterfinal game on Monday, June 8 at 4 p.m. The Wakefield/Concord-Carlisle winner will face the winner of first round match-up between fifth-ranked Lynn Classical (14-6) and 12th-seeded Winchester (9-9). That first round game in Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Fraser Field in Lynn.

The quarterfinal game will be at the home of the higher seeded team which means if Wakefield wins, it will have a second home tourney contest.

Also in the Div. 2 North field from the Middlesex League are Melrose, Arlington, Wilmington, Belmont and Reading.

Melrose (13-7) is seeded sixth and will host 11th-ranked Marblehead (10-10) in a first round game on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Melrose.

Arlington (12-8) is ranked seventh and will take on 10th-ranked Beverly (11-9) in a first round game on Friday at 4 p.m. in Arlington.

Wilmington (11-9) is seeded eighth and will face ninth-seeded Belmont (11-9) in a first round game on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Wilmington.

Reading (10-10) is seeded 14th and the Rockets will take on third-ranked Masconomet (17-3) on Thursday at 4 p.m. in a first round game at Masconomet.

Danvers (17-3) and North Andover (17-3) are seeded first and second in the North sectional above the Warriors.

Danvers will take on 16th-seeded Tewksbury (6-14) in a first round game on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Danvers. North Andover will face 15th-ranked Boston Latin School (9-11) in a first round game on Thursday at 4 p.m. in North Andover.

Most of the quarterfinal games will be played on Monday, June 8 at 4 p.m. at the home of the higher seeded teams. The dates, times and venues of the semifinal and final rounds are to be announced.

Lexington (16-4) is in the 14-team Div. 1 North field. The Minutemen drew a first round bye and will host a quarterfinal game on Monday at 4 p.m. in Lexington. Lexington will face the winner of a first round game between seventh-ranked Lynn English (14-6) and 10th-seeded Chelmsford (13-7). That first round game is Thursday at 4 p.m. at Fraser Field.

Watertown (9-11) is ranked 19th in the 21-team Div. 3 North field. The Red Raiders will take on 14th-seeded Triton (13-9) this afternoon (4 p.m.) in a preliminary round match at Triton Regional. The winner will take on third-seeded Arlington Catholic (15-5) on Thursday at 4 p.m. in a first round game at the Summer Street Field in Arlington.

Like Div. 2 North, the quarterfinal games for the other two sectionals will be played on Monday, June 8 at 4 p.m. at the home of the higher seeded team. The dates, times and venues of the semifinal and final rounds are yet to be announced.
