MELROSE — Although September seems a long time away, it’s just amazing how time flies – especially during our beautiful summer months.

Once again, the Friends of Milano Center would like to provide the pertinent details on this year’s City-wide Yard Sale which benefits Melrose’s local senior center.

The date of this year’s event is Saturday, September 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be held rain or shine.

This has become a welcome and much anticipated day as individuals throughout the city plan their own yard sale at their own home. Last year’s map listed 105 individual locations and we know there were several more who contacted the Council on Aging after the map had been printed, and who opted to still hold their yard sale, even though they were too late to be included on the printed map.

In the past, organizers have strongly encouraged family or neighborhood groups to plan having a yard sale together because the “shoppers” will see the cluster of addresses in a particular area and go there first. Any yard seller knows that this is good for business.

There are several spots on the Beebe Estate lawn that may also be available for you if you have no yard or area to hold a yard sale at your own home. This location is at 235 West Foster Street, Melrose. The former carriage house of this estate which is now our local senior center is located down the driveway at the rear of the Beebe Estate itself – the Milano Center whose actual address is 201 West Foster Street.

Applications to register may be picked up there or online at www.cityofmelrose.org/2017yardsale. Return your application together with a tax-deductible check for $25, made payable to Friends of Milano Center who sponsor the event. They are a 501© 3 corporation and the fundraiser group of the Milano Center. This fee includes the city’s yard sale permit, and a packet containing the listing for each registered address to be shown on a city-wide street map, and several neon-pink signs to identify your location. This information will be put together closer to the actual September date.
