WAKEFIELD — It was the place to be.

That is, if anyone wanted to visit the tropics without actually having to fly to one of the Caribbean islands. The Lucius Beebe Library on Main Street was Aruba, Jamaica and even Nevis all rolled into one big island for the ninth annual Blossoms at the Beebe fundraising event held Saturday night, April 30, from 7 to 11 p.m.

The gala, which also benefited the Wakefield Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce, drew hundreds of over-21 adults who were anxious to hear comedian and Wakefield native Paul D’Angelo and attend a signing of his second book titled “More Stories to Tell.”

Other notables attending were State Rep. Donald Wong (R-Saugus/Wakefield); Marianne Cohen, executive director of the Wakefield Lynnfield Chamber of Commerce, School Committee members Anne Danehy, Christopher Callanan and Rob Tiro and local business owners Tania Alongi (Tania—A Unique Salon & Spa for Body & Soul), Rada Frohlichstein (Rada Boutique & Upscale Consignment) and Suzanne Bowering (Holiday Travel).

Blossoms at the Beebe also included a flower show featuring floral arrangements to gush over, music by steel drum band Pan Loco, dance music by The Groove, easy listening live music in the lower level, caricature artist and Wakefield resident Chip O’Brien, gourmet appetizers by ZuZu’s Café and Laurie’s 9:09 Restaurant & Catering, a cash bar featuring a signature drink that reflected the Caribbean Nights theme and a game room where people could try their luck while playing roulette, black Jack and Caribbean stud poker.

The fun didn’t stop there. There was an auction featuring an overnight at the Boston Seaport Hotel, tickets to North Shore Music Theatre and the theater’s restaurant Gaslight, Adirondack chairs, music lessons, Red Sox tickets and much more.

A raffle was also held for the floral arrangements.

Proceeds from the event support library services, cultural events and the many Chamber of Commerce projects that enhance the civic and economic life of Wakefield and Lynnfield.
