Murphy-obit-webLYNNFIELD — Bernard P. Murphy, 94, of Lynnfield and York, Maine, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.

Mr. Murphy was born in Somerville on May 11, 1920. He was the son of the late John and Julia M. (Clarke) Murphy.

Mr. Murphy was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Boston High School of Commerce and later graduated from Northeastern University. Following school, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in China and Southeast Asia, where he was captured by enemy forces. Upon his release, Mr. Murphy returned home to start both a family and career. He was past president and co-founder of the Burlington Bank and Trust Co. and was a member of SACO, the Sino-American Cooperative Organization. He was an exemplary man and was much loved by family and friends alike.

Mr. Murphy was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne F. (Doucet) Murphy, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage and raised four children. He is survived by Debbie Cantwell and her husband Don of York, Maine; Cindy Murphy and her husband Stephen Burke; and Lisa Douglas and her husband Scott, all of California; and the late Linda Murphy. He is also survived by his sister Betty and brother Robert and his six grandchildren: Marissa and Andrew Cantwell, Evan and Liam Burke and Sandi and Patrick Douglas.

Mr. Murphy’s funeral was held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday, Jan. 9, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church. A visitation for relatives and friends was held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 8. Interment took place at Forest Hill Cemetery.
