LAYTONSVILLE, Md. — Bertha Louise (Boudreau) Mitchell, 96, passed away in Laytonsville, Md., on May 13.

She was born in Taunton, raised in Taunton and graduated from St. Mary High School, in Taunton. Mrs. Mitchell lived in Somerville for a few years before moving to Melrose in 1957. Prior to her settling down she worked for the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. during World War II and at the Navy Yard in Boston.

She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Incarnation Church where she was a founding member.

Bertha was the wife of the late Frederick F. Mitchell. She was the loving mother of James Mitchell and his wife Janice of Melrose and the late Janet Popowitz and her husband Paul of Yarmouth. She was the sister of Beatrice Kelley. She was the grandmother of Kevin Mitchell and his wife Emily of Arlington, Va. and Meghan McCrorey and her late husband Willie of Melrose. She is also survived by several great-grandchildren, family members and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Incarnation Church, 425 Upham St., Melrose on Wednesday, May 25, at 11 a.m. followed by the interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. Arrangements by Gately Funeral Home, Melrose. To send a message of condolence please visit www.gatelyfh.com.
