BEVERLY — A scoreless stalemate between the Peabody/Lynnfield/North Reading and Beverly/Danvers girls’ co-op hockey teams came down to the wire Saturday night.

The score remained deadlocked at 0-0 throughout nearly three full periods of hockey at the Bourque Arena on the campus of Endicott College in Beverly. But the Panthers struck first with 3:53 left in regulation and that was enough to seal the 1-0 victory in the opponents’ favor over the Tanners.

“Mae Norton and Ashley Barrett remain a solid presence on the blue line, while Cassie Mirasolo and Brianna Barrett led the offense,” commented Tanners’ head coach Michelle Roach after the game.

Norton and the Barrett twins hail from Lynnfield; Mirasolo, a sophomore, is one of four North Reading players on the team.

She added that goalie Abby Buckley posted “another solid night between the pipes.” Buckley was peppered with pucks all night and ultimately the freshman from Lynnfield turned away 29 shots on net.

“Our goal has been to play a full three periods against all of our opponents and we came ready to play on Saturday night,” the first-year coach of the three-town co-op team said.

“We unfortunately came up short and have to work on getting more shots to net, but I’m happy with the strong overall effort. We will continue to build on that energy and focus as we head into the upcoming week,” she added.

With the loss, the Tanners dropped to 1-5-0 in the league play in the girls’ Division 1 Northeastern Hockey League and 3-7-0 overall. They’ve scored 24 goals in the first 10 games and have given up 35 overall.
