Loved to dance, play golf and Aruba trips
MELROSE — Beverly J. (Hurst) Mercer, of Melrose died peacefully on September 18 at the age of 78. She was born in Revere on July 19, 1946 to the late Anna (Davey) and Ernest Hurst. Beverly was raised in Revere and graduated from Revere High School. She married her late husband Jack in 1965 and would eventually settle in Melrose in 1976.
Beverly was a lively, active person. She loved to dance, golf, and would try anything at least once. She was active with several senior centers in the area and always enjoyed attending their events. Beverly took many trips to Aruba and always enjoyed a good cosmo. Most importantly, Beverly was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved being with her family and always made it to her grandchildren’s events, attending more football games than she could count.
Beverly was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Mercer, Sr. Loving mother of John A. Mercer, Jr. and his wife Julie of Melrose; James M. Mercer and his wife Megan of NC; and Joseph E. Mercer and his wife Kati of CT. Proud grandmother of Eric, Kevin, Zack, Brian, Jill, Grace, Collin, Jeremy and Jenna. Caring sister of Karen Hurst of Woburn and many loving nieces and nephews. Also survived by her dear friends Dianne French, Rita Barry and Sandy Rossetta.
Visiting Hours were held on Sunday, September 22 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose. A funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, September 23 at St. Mary’s Church, 4 Herbert St., Melrose.
