LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-op wrestling team defeated Pentucket and gave a strong performance in the Anthony Lisitano Memorial Tournament last week.

The Black and Gold (3-0) defeated Pentucket 50-27 on Dec. 14.

Freshman Stuart Glover (113 lbs.) moved up a weight class and defeated his opponent by an 8-0 major decision. Senior captain Adam Rossetti (145 lbs.) pinned his counterpart in 2:40. Senior captain Connor Stead (152 lbs.) defeated his opponent by a 10-0 major decision.

Junior Andrew DiPietro (170 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 5:37. Junior Anthony Wilkinson (182 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 1:44. Stuart Metrano (106 lbs.), senior Will Glover (126 lbs.), sophomore Dylan Reardon (132 lbs.) and senior captain Joe Reardon (138 lbs.) won their respective matches by forfeit.

“Only 10 of the 14 matches were wrestled on the mat,” said Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone. “The teams split those five and five but Pentucket was unable to fill four weight classes due to illness and injury. Rossetti, Stead and Wilkinson picked up their third dual meet win in as many matches.”

Seventh in tourney

The Black and Gold finished seventh out of 17 teams in the Anthony Lisitano Memorial Tournament in Wakefield Dec. 17. The tournament is comprised of Division 1, 2 and 3 teams.

There were seven grapplers who placed during the tournament, including three freshmen. Stone said the last time a freshman placed in the Lisitano Tournament was Sean Reed (215 lbs.) in 2001.

Stead was crowned champion of the 145 lbs. weight class. He finished sixth in the 138 lbs. weight class last year. Stead began the tournament by pinning a Saugus wrestler in 5:29 in the round of 16. He defeated a Lexington wrestler by fall in 1:32 in the quarterfinals. Stead defeated a Methuen wrestler by a 2-0 decision in the semifinals. He won the 145 lb. weight class after pinning a Wakefield wrestler in 5:29.

Wilkinson finished third in the 182 lb. weight class after finishing with a 3-2 record. His third place finish marked the first time he has placed in a varsity tournament.

Senior Will Glover, who missed last year’s tournament due to an early season concussion, finished fourth in the 126 lb. weight class after concluding the tournament with a 2-2 record. Stuart Glover (106 lbs.) placed fourth after finishing with a 2-2 record.

Freshman Timmy Leggett (120 lbs.) finished fifth overall after concluding the tournament with a 2-2 record. Freshman Sean McCullough (160 lbs.) went 3-2 during the tournament, which enabled him to secure a fifth place finish. Junior Kevin Farrelly (195 lbs.) finished sixth during the tournament.

Joe Reardon (132 lbs.) and senior Tim Goucher (220 lbs.) both won matches during the tournament, but were unable to place.
