LYNNFIELD — The Lynnfield-North Reading co-operative wrestling team improved to 7-0 after the Black and Gold won all four of its meets last week.

The Black and Gold began last week defeating Greater Lowell Tech 41-34 Dec. 21.

The grapplers were trailing 34-12 before the locals won the last six matches to secure the come-from-behind victory.

Freshman Chris Metrano (113 lbs.) won his first varsity match after pinning his opponent in 42 seconds. Freshman Timmy Leggett (120 lbs.) won his match after his counterpart was disqualified. Senior Will Glover (126 lbs.) defeated his opponent by fall in 41 seconds. Sophomore Dylan Reardon moved up from the 126 lb. weight class to 132 lb. weight class, and defeated his counterpart by a 7-0 decision.

Senior captain Adam Rossetti (138 lbs.) won his match by a 16-8 major decision. Senior captain Connor Stead (145 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by a 14-5 major decision. Junior Kevin Farrelly (195 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 1:24. Senior Tim Goucher (220 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 41 seconds.

Black and Gold head coach Craig Stone praised the locals’ performance against Greater Lowell Tech.

“It was a very physical match with both teams wrestling very aggressively,” said Stone. “Rossetti won a major decision to put the Black and Gold up 37-34. Greater Lowel could have tied the match with a decision at 145 lbs., but Stead sealed the win with another major decision.”

Sweeps quad meet

The Black and Gold defeated Malden Catholic, Marblehead-Swampscott and Wakefield in a quad meet Dec. 23.

The grapplers began the meet defeating Malden Catholic 37-35.

Freshman Stuart Glover (106 lbs.) won his match by a 6-3 decision. Rossetti (145 lbs.) defeated his opponent by a 12-1 major decision. Freshman Sean McCullough (160 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 19 seconds.

Farrelly (195 lbs.) won his match by fall in 14 seconds. Will Glover (126 lbs.), Goucher (220 lbs.) and freshman Justin Charak (285 lbs.) won their respective matches by forfeit.

“LNR was down 25-35, but MC forfeited the last two weights to Goucher and Charak giving LNR the win,” said Stone.

The Black and Gold pounded Marblehead-Swampscott 60-21. The grapplers, who led from start to finish, won 10 out of 14 matches against Marblehead-Swampscott. Nine of the locals’ victories were by pin.

Metrano (106 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 4:17. Stuart Glover (113 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 4:39. Senior Chris Reardon (120 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 5:15. Will Glover defeated his counterpart by fall in 55 seconds.

Senior captain Joe Reardon (132 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 1:44. McCullough (160 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 33 seconds. Junior Andrew DiPietro (170 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 2:38. Junior Anthony Wilkinson (182 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 21 seconds. Goucher (220 lbs.) pinned his opponent in 2:45. Freshman Dan Ryan (145 lbs.) won his match by forfeit.

The Black and Gold defeated Wakefield 45-36 during the meet.

Stuart Glover clinched the locals’ victory over Wakefield after pinning his counterpart in 2:59. Will Glover (126 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 1:59. Joe Reardon (132 lbs.) won his match by a 4-2 decision.

Rossetti pinned a returning sectional place finisher in 1:22. Wilkinson (182 lbs.) defeated his counterpart by fall in 55 seconds. Metrano (106 lbs.), Chris Reardon (120 lbs.) and McCullough (160 lbs.) won their respective matches by forfeit.

“LNR led 21-0 after four matches,” said Stone. “Wakefield won six of the next weight classes to take a 36-33 lead with only two weight classes remaining. Wakefield forfeited at 106 lbs., giving the lead back to LNR 39-36 and setting the stage for the final match at 113 lbs. Wakefield needed a win by decision to tie, or a major decision or better to win, but it would not happen on this day.”
