WAKEFIELD — Wakefield Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a body was found in Lake Quannapowitt Sunday morning, according to information from Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Wakefield Chief of Police Rick Smith.

At approximately 8:56 a.m., police received a 911 call of a body in the water along the Church Street side of Lake Quannapowitt.

Upon arrival at the scene, first responders located a deceased male. Police cordoned off an area behind Veterans Field and the Hartshorne House while the body was recovered. There were no obvious signs of foul play, according to investigators.

This incident was investigated by the Wakefield Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Middlesex County District Attorney’s office said this morning that the death is not considered suspicious and no further information would be forthcoming.
