WRENTHAM — The day started with 156 teams and over 3,000 runners slated to compete at the Frank Kelley Invitational held in Wrentham in various races throughout Saturday morning and afternoon. The morning had threats of thunderstorms but by the time the Warriors took to the starting line the skies cleared up and the conditions were perfect for the championship race.

Due to an increase in school population, Wakefield was moved up to the large school division by the MIAA and it was unchartered territory for the Warriors.

Saying that they rose to the occasion is an understatement.

The boys were able to come away with a first place finish over some of the top-ranked teams in the state. They did so with a tight 43 second pack from the first to the fifth scorers and scored 120 points over Pentucket(142) and Newton North(145). 19 Division 1 and Division 2 teams competed in the championship race.
