Underclass runners impress, three seniors wrap up careers

WRENTHAM — While the Eastern Mass. Meet will be run this weekend at the Wrentham Developmental Center, the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) Invitational Meet this past Saturday in Wrentham marked the end of the season for many of the Warrior boys’ cross country runners that competed.

In the Boys’ Div. 2 Junior/Senior 5K Run,  junior Jack Stevens competed and had a 45th place finish and a time of 18:00.52. There were 237 runners in the race.

Three seniors concluded their high school cross country career with good performances on the 5K course.

Adam D’Ambrosio improved his time once again with a time of 18:03.45 for 49th place. Tyler Whipple also improved with a time of 18:37.39 and finished in 70th place. Alex Guerriero came in 89th overall finished with a time of 18:52.86.

“These seniors have a come a long way since they began with the program. They have worked tremendously hard and have had a major impact on the current state of the program,” said Coach Perry Pappas. “They have led by example to help the younger Warriors improve greatly over the past few seasons.”

Wakefield had one entry in the Boys’ Div. 2 Sophomore 5K Run, Robert Shaw captured ninth overall with a time of 17:59.63. There were 137 runners entered.

“Robert Shaw had the best race of his sophomore season as he concluded with a ninth place finish in the Sophomore race,” said Pappas. “Robert can contribute to the success of the program in the next few years.”

Wakefield also had a number of entries in the Boys’ Div. 2 Freshman 5K run. There were 171 freshmen entered in the race.

Tom Harrington claimed seventh place with a time of 10:47.85 to lead the Warrior contingent.

Rohan Singhvi (11:19.16), Billy Stevens (11:19.98) and Derrick Scheeler (11:24.98) finished in 22nd, 24th and 27th place.

Casey Brackett came in 34th overall in a time of 11:34.36.

Derryn Langlois and Ryan Donald secured 40th and 49th place. They ran times of 11:37.77 and 11:42.

“(The) Freshman boys concluded their impressive season getting second place at their third major meet. It was fun to see how well this talented group of freshmen were able to do against their peers across the state this season,” said Pappas. “There are never any guarantees but if they work hard enough, this group of boys could do very well in a few years once they have developed their skills.”
