NORTH READING — The Hornets boy’s basketball team had its second blowout victory in as many games, defeating the Notre Dame Cristo Ray Hurricanes 83-53 on December 30.

Junior Bobby O’Donnell had the best game of his varsity career with 17 points. Senior Adam Goldstein had a strong game with 15 points and 7 rebounds.

O’Donnell carried the offense in the first half of the first quarter, scoring 10 of the team’s first 15 points and North Reading was up 15-4 at the 4:00 mark. The lead got trimmed to six but a late three extended the lead to 23-14 at the end of one.

Early in the second quarter the Hurricanes clawed back to within four. But after a timeout the Hornets responded with an 11-2 run to extend the lead to 36-23 at 3:34.

North Reading held Cristo Ray off the rest of the quarter and took 43-31 lead into the half.

The Hornets came out of the halftime locker room on fire and put the game to bed in the third quarter. They opened the third on a 16-4 run and by the end of the quarter held a commanding 70-43 lead.

Coach Joe Casey emptied the bench in the fourth and North Reading won easily, 83-53.
