Warriors are well represented in Div. 4 championship meet

BOSTON — The Wakefield Memorial High boys’ indoor track team recently captured the Middlesex League Freedom division title. On Saturday, the Warriors are setting their sights on another prize — the Div. 4 championship.

Wakefield has 11 entries and all three relay teams in the Div.4 championship meet which will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Kevin Russo and Eric Chi, both juniors, are seeded 31st and 32nd among 37 sprinters in the 55 meter dash as both qualified with times of 6.93 seconds.

In the 300 meter dash, seniors Cam Yasi and Joe Hurton are ranked 21st and 24th with times of 38.01 seconds and 38.19 seconds. There are 33 runners entered.

Jackson Gallagher, a senior, is seeded third in the 600 meters among 27 runners with a time of 1:23.63. Gallagher is the defending champion in the event. Also having qualified in the 600 is senior Tyler Strauss as he is ranked 25th with a time of 1:30.21.

In the 1000 meter run, Ian Ritchie, a senior, is ranked fourth with a time of 2:37.40 among 21 runners entered. He is Wakefield’s lone runner in the event.

Adam Roberto, a sophomore, is the 21st and final seed in the mile with a qualifying time of 4:45.30.

In the two mile, junior Rich Custodio is ranked 26th among 29 runners with a state qualifying time of 10:32.25.

Ben Joly, a senior, is seeded fifth in the shot put with a distance of 47-4 1/2. There are 22 shot putters entered.

In the high jump, senior Pat Casaletto has a height of 5-9 as he is ranked 14th out of 17 jumpers that have made the state cut.

Wakefield is seeded 12th in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:37.36. There are 24 teams entered in the event. Junior Jian Glen Gallardo, Chi, senior Kyle Geaney, Russo and sophomore Dan Sallade are possible candidates to run the event.

The Warrior 4×800 relay team is ranked second out of 16 teams with a qualifying time of 8:15.28. The possible runners for the event include Gallagher, junior Alec Rodgers, Roberto, Ritchie, Custodio, Strauss and junior Alex Guerriero.

Wakefield also has an entry in the 4×400 relay. Out of 19 teams, the Warriors are seeded third with a time of 3:33.73. The possible candidates of runners include Yasi, Strauss, junior Joe Boudreau, Hurton, Gallagher and Ritchie.
