Warriors dominate against rival Red Raiders

BOSTON — The defending Middlesex League Freedom division champion Warrior boys’ indoor track team continues to roll against its division rivals. Wakefield increased its record to 3-0 as it routed Melrose, 62-24, last night in the third block of M.L. dual meets at Boston University.

As the score indicates, Wakefield had many terrific performances in the meet.

In the 55 meter dash, the Warriors swept the event. Senior Kevin Russo, junior Dan Sallade, and sophomore Henry Stikeman sprinted to times of 7.05 seconds, 7.06 seconds, and 7.17 seconds.

Seniors Eric Chi and Joe Boudreau captured first and second in the 300 meter dash as they clocked in at 39.64 seconds and 39.73 seconds.

In the 600 meter run, Alex Guerriero, a senior, earned a third place finish to avoid a sweep. Guerriero timed in at 1:35.52.

Seniors Alec Rodgers and Rich Custodio took first and second in the 1000 meter run. They posted times of 2:43.44 and 2:48.30.

The Warriors went one-three in the mile. Adam Roberto, a junior, clocked in at 4:44.81 for first place, while Chris Skeldon, a senior, recorded a time of 4:59.66 for third.

In the two mile, the Warriors had a second and third place finish. Juniors Ryan Sullivan and Nick McGee ran times of 10:38.04 and 10:40.57.

Wakefield had a first and second place finish in the 55 meter hurdles. Senior Zach Conlon and junior Peter Crump posted times of 9.42 seconds and 10.15 seconds.

In the 4×400 relay, the Warriors took first at 3:49.21.

TJ Sellers and Carmen Sorrentino, both juniors, secured second and third place in the high jump as both cleared 5-3.

In the shot put, the Warriors swept the event. Jared Regan, a senior, Joe Connell, a junior, and Evan McMaster, a sophomore, had throws of 38-11, 38-9, and 34-8.

There were good efforts from the non-scoring Warriors as well.

Dan Summers, a junior, ran a time of 7.48 seconds in the dash.

In the 300, junior TJ Sellers posted a time of 40.85 seconds.

In the 600, junior John Stanfield (1:36.53), freshman Marc Amalfitano (1:39.16), and sophomore Ryan Smith (1:39.41) all competed.

Senior Tyler Whipple ran a time of 3:00.76 in the 1000.

In the mile, junior Jackson Kehoe posted a time of 5:12.66.

Jack Stevens, a junior, ran a time of 11:04.67 in the two mile.

In the hurdles, sophomore Jordan Fauci and freshman Tommy Galvin ran times of 10.82 seconds and 10.83 seconds.

Galvin also competed in the high jump but didn’t make opening height.

In the non-scoring long jump, the Warriors took first and second behind the efforts of sophomore Marc Biennestin and senior Matt Smith. They had leaps of 16-10 and 16-5 1/4.

The Warriors will compete in the Div. 4 state relays on Friday night at 4:30 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center. Wakefield then will take on Burlington, last year’s league runner up, in a showdown on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 4 p.m. at Boston University.
