Warriors take fifth overall at Div. 4 state relays

BOSTON — The Wakefield Memorial High boys’ indoor track team continues to show its prowess at the state level as well in the Middlesex League based upon its fifth place performance in the Div. 4 state relays which were held on Friday night at Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Wakefield scored 24 points and was fifth among 21 schools that scored points. Norton won the meet with 49 points, Milton was second with 38 points, Burlington took third with 37 points, and Marblehead was fourth at 33 points.

The Warriors medaled in five events and had a very good showing across the board.

The 4×50 yard A relay team captured third overall in a time of 22.81 seconds. There were 31 teams entered. The four runners included senior Eric Chi, junior Dan Sallade, sophomore Henry Stikeman and senior Kevin Russo.

The distance medley A relay team grabbed third place in a time of 11:23.40. There were 24 teams entered. The four runners included senior Alec Rodgers (1200 meters), senior Joe Boudreau (400 meters), junior Adam Roberto 800 meters) and senior Rich Custodio (1600 meters).

The 4×200 A relay team secured fourth overall among 44 teams entered as it clocked in at 1:36.72. The four runners included Chi, Sallade, Stikeman and Russo as they were teamed together again.

Wakefield also claimed fourth place in the 4×800 relay as its A team posted a time of 8:29.67. There were 29 teams that ran the event. The four distance runners were Roberto, junior Ryan Sullivan, sophomore Matt Greatorex and Rodgers.

In the shot put relay, Wakefield had a fourth place showing with a combined throw of 120-10 1/2. There were 23 teams entered. The trio of throwers were junior Cole Mottl, senior Jake Regan and junior Joe Connell.

Wakefield also had good performances among the non-point scorers.

The 4×50 yard B relay team took 29th overall at 26.28 seconds. The four sprinters were Travis Marsh, Elias Michaelidis, Matt Smith and Juan Maysonet.

The 4×200 B relay team finished in 36th place in a time of 1:48.88. The four Warriors that competed in the event were Marsh, Smith, Alex Shively and Maysonet.

In the 4×400 relay, the Warriors had an A and a B team that ran. The A team posted a time of 3:49.10 and finished 11th among 34 schools while the B team finished in 27th place in a time of 4:07.63. Joe Boudreau, TJ Sellers, Dan Summers and Greatorex were the A team runners, while the B team consisted of Rohan Singhvi, Shahnawaz Anwar, Shively and Brian Smith.

The 4×800 B relay team took 17th at 9:05.83 and the four runners included Brian Smith, Robert Shaw, Alex Guerriero and Jack Stevens.

The Warriors finished eighth and 21st overall in the sprint medley relay among the 32 teams entered. The A team posted a time of 4:03.18 and the four runners were Tyler Whipple (800 meters), Marc Biennestin (200 meters), Sellers (200 meters) and Summers (400 meters). The B team team timed in at 4:14.33 and the quartet consisted of Jackson Kehoe (800 meters), Tom Galvin (200 meters), Jordan Fauci (200 meters) and Zach Conlon (400 meters).

The distance medley B relay team secured eighth place at 11:46.04. The four runners were Nick McGee, Sullivan, Tommy Lucey and Chris Skeldon.

The 4×50 yard shuttle hurdle relay team placed 14th out of 16 teams with a time of 33.37 seconds. The four hurdlers were Conlon, Fauci, Galvin and Elias.

Wakefield took 12th place in the high jump relay with a combined height of 15-0 1/4 as 12 teams had jumpers that made opening height. There were six teams that had jumped that did not make opening. The trio of Warrior jumpers were Galvin, Sellers and Biennestin.

The Warriors placed 13th in the long jump relay with a combined distance of 50-9 1/4 among 18 teams that had a distance. Two teams did not. The WMHS long jumpers were Sallade, Biennestin and Matt Smith.

Wakefield returns to dual meet competition this afternoon at 4 p.m. when it takes on Burlington in the fourth block of Middlesex League dual meets which will be held at Boston University. Both teams are 3-0 in the M.L. Freedom division and today’s meet will more than likely determine the league champion.
