LYNNFIELD — On April 13, the Lynnfield High boys’ lacrosse team knocked off guest Amesbury by a final score of 17-5 on a warm, sunny day. That win gave the Pioneers a record of 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the Cape Ann League.

Lynnfield led the Red Hawks, 9-5, at the half as they were able to shut them out the second half.

“Our defense turned it around after allowing the five goals in the first half,” pointed out Pioneers head coach Pat Lamusta. “Their slides and ball clearing was much better.”

Will Norton led the LHS attack with a season-high nine points as he had four goals and five assists. Owen Considine had six points with three goals and three assists while senior co-captain, Drew Damiani, had four goals and one assist.

Kelan Cardinal also had six points with a pair of goals and four helpers.

Sophomores, Owen Doherty and Mike Murphy, had one goal and one assist each.

Evan Rocha and James Sharkey had the two other Pioneer goals.

For Sharkey, a senior co-captain, it was his first career goal. He also led the team in ground balls with eight.

Ben Pimentel had an easy day in net as he only had to make two saves to improve to 5-1 in goal.

It was a nice bounce-back win for the team as they lost at Pentucket, 14-6, the day before at Pipestave Fields.

“They have a very strong team,” said Lamusta about the Panthers. “They have several good attackers, a defense that clears the ball and a goalie who made a lot of good saves.”

Pentucket led wire-to-wire as they were up 9-4 at the half.

Damiani and Norton both scored twice while Cardinal had one goal and two assists. Considine had the other goal.

Senior co-captain, Jack Calichman, had three assists before injuring his back in the third quarter. He did not play in the Amesbury game.

Pimentel made a career-high 20 saves in net as Pentucket controlled the territorial play.

“We played hard to the end even though we lost Jack,” pointed out Lamusta.

Owen White led the Pioneers in ground balls with six while Bryce Kay, the team’s face-off specialist, had five.

Lynnfield’s next two games will be non-league ones. On April 24, the team will host St. Mary’s of Lynn with that game starting at 4 p.m.

The next day, the Pioneers will travel to Dracut with that game starting at 6:30 p.m.
