Trample Tigers 5-0

NORTH READING — The Hornets pounded the Ipswich Tigers 5-0 on Monday night to earn their second consecutive victory. Junior Cam Davis led the way with 2 goals. Senior Sean Castro, juniors Carlos Moreno and Anthony Tramontozzi added a goal apiece. (More details in the Oct. 8 Transcript)

Fall to Lynnfield 2-0

The Hornets were still left in search of their first victory of the season after their 2-0 defeat to the rival Lynnfield Pioneers on September 21st.

North Reading went into the match shorthanded. Senior captains and starters Nick Govostes and Ryan McAneny were unavailable because of injury. The Hornets created some great chances throughout the game but were either turned away by the Lynnfield goalie or they sent their shots high and wide. North Reading only made two mistakes defensively, but unfortunately the Pioneers capitalized on both and turned them directly into goals.

Their first goal came in the 31st minute when Lynnfield took advantage of the Hornet back line being spread too far apart. The Pioneers were able to send a forward through who slipped his shot by a sprawling Billy Brandano. In the 48th minute Lynnfield added their second goal. Their leading scorer was given too much space at the top of the box and was able to pick the far corner of the goal.

Down Amesbury 3-1

The Hornets finally earned their first victory of season with a 3-1 road win over the Amesbury Indians on Thursday afternoon. Senior Kilian Daly, Anthony Tramontozzi and Cam Davis scored for North Reading.

North Reading started the match off with a bang. In the second minute Tramontozzi finished off the rebound from a Daly shot, for his first varsity goal. Late in first half Davis extended the lead to 2-0, scoring in the 34th minute. On the play Carlos Moreno sent in a cross that found Davis at the far post who finished off the play with a beautiful volley into the net. The lead remained 2-0 at the half.

Amesbury refused to quit and in the 62nd minute they made it a one goal game after coming up with a scrappy goal off of a free kick. Fortunately the Hornets responded and put the game away in the 74th minute with Daly’s goal that came off of a Moreno rebound.

North Reading hopes to improve its record tonight, when the Georgetown Royals visit the Arthur Kenney Field for a game played under the lights at 7 p.m.
