4×800 relay team takes fifth, Mottl earns a sixth in the shot put

BOSTON — The Warrior boys’ indoor track team had two entries medal in the Div. 4 championship meet which was held last Friday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

The 4×800 relay took fifth place for four points with a time of 8:39.05. The four runners included sophomore Matt Greatorex, junior Adam Roberto, senior Alec Rodgers and junior Ryan Sullivan. There were 14 teams that ran the event.

Cole Mottl, a junior, placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 45-8 1/2. There were 22 entries in the event.

As a team, Wakefield scored seven points and finished in a tie for 22nd place with Auburn. There were 35 schools that scored points in the meet.

Neither the 4×800 relay team nor Mottl qualified for the All-State meet as the Warriors’ season came to an end.

Also competing in the meet but not medaling were Eric Chi, Brian Smith, Roberto, Greatorex, Nick McGee, Rich Custodio, Tom Lucey, Marc Biennestin, Jared Regan and Joe Connell. Wakefield also had an entry in both the 4×200 relay and 4×400 relay.

In the 55 meter dash, Chi, a senior, grabbed 12th place in the preliminaries with a time of 6.83 seconds. A total of 35 sprinters ran in the preliminaries.

Smith, a freshman, finished in 22nd place in the 600 meter run in a time of 1:33.85. There were 23 runners that competed.

In the 1000 meter run, Roberto, a junior, and Greatorex, a sophomore, placed 10th and 13th overall. Roberto ran a time of 2:43.05 and Greatorex clocked in at 2:43.71. There were 20 runners entered in the event.

The Warriors also had two runners in the mile. McGee, a junior, and Custodio, a senior, took 10th and 13th overall with times of 4:43.90 and 4:46.22 among the 21 milers that ran.

Lucey, a freshman, finished in 19th place in two mile at 10:51.79. There were 19 runners entered.

Biennestin, a sophomore, leaped a distance of 19-1 3/4 and finished in 18th place in the long jump among the 26 entries.

The Warriors had two more athletes who competed in the shot put. Regan, a senior, and Connell, a junior, had throws of 41-9 3/4 and 40-10 1/2 to finish in 13th and 15th place.

Wakefield’s 4×200 relay team claimed 13th place among the 31 schools that ran the event with a time of 1:38.50. The four runners included Chi, junior Dan Sallade, sophomore Henry Stikeman and senior Kevin Russo.

The Warrior 4×400 relay team also secured 13th place among the 18 teams that competed. The team of senior Joe Boudreau, junior TJ Sellers, junior Dan Summers and junior Carmen Sorrentino combined to clock in at 3:44.60.
