WAKEFIELD — Brian M. Dirrane, 69, of Wakefield, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Boston on Feb. 2, 1945, he was the son of the late Leo and Teresa (Clifford) Dirrane.
Mr. Dirrane was raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Boston College High School, Boston College and later earned his master’s degree in Business from Boston College. While at Boston College, he served in the ROTC program and later served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He served as a First Lieutenant and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Bronze Star.
He retired from the Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center of Boston. He has previously worked for General Electric and Unitrode Products of the Texas Instruments Corporation.
He was an active member of St. Florence Church and was member of its Holy Name Society and also served at the vice president of the Archdiocese of Boston Holy Name Society.
Mr. Dirrane was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Gilchrist) Dirrane. He was the loving father of Lisa Dirrane and her husband Kevin LaRoche of New Hampshire, Corinna A. “Corrie” Dirrane of Wakefield, Rebecca M. Salacup and her husband Jeff of Amherst and Michael L. Dirrane of Wakefield. He was the brother of Joan Dirrane and Leo Dirrane and his wife Anna. He was the beloved grandfather of Bria, Shylah and Hannah Bee.
His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Ave., Wakefield at 10 o’clock.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
