WOBURN — John Casparriello, Nick Cordeau and Charlie Stanton represented Melrose High School at the Middlesex League baseball All-Star game, June 22, at Ferullo Field in Woburn. The Freedom division team beat the Liberty division team, 3-1.
As the starting pitcher, Casparriello threw two scoreless innings for the Freedom team, striking out one while only allowing two hits.
Center fielder, Nick Cordeau, got things started in the first inning, scoring the first run of the game after being hit by a pitch. He stole second base, went to third on a passed ball, and scored on a ground ball to first base.
In the fourth inning, with runners on second and third, Cordeau had a base hit up the middle to drive in the final two runs of the game.
Charlie Stanton went one-for-two at the plate with a base hit and did a great job behind the plate handling multiple pitchers from across the Freedom league.
In the top of the ninth inning, Cordeau came up just short in a bid for a grand slam as the ball was caught at the fence in right centerfield.
