May tax collections expand state’s cash buffer

BOSTON — With just one month left in fiscal year 2026, state tax collections are running more than $1.8 billion ahead of what Gov. Maura Healey’s budget office projected it would need by this point in the year.

The Department of Revenue said Wednesday that it collected $2.767 billion
