WAKEFIELD – As expected, Thomas Purcell is Wakefield’s new Fire Chief following a process that culminated in his appointment by Town Administrator Denise Casey.  

Purcell served as Deputy Fire Chief under Michael Sullivan, who retired recently after 41 years with the Fire Department, the last 17 years as Chief.

Team Effort: New co-op girls’ hockey, Wakefield and Wilmington

THE WAKEFIELD/WILMINGTON co-op girls’ hockey team helped set up the Holiday Fair at the First Baptist Church last weekend, an event which provided items and goods for families in need. Wakefield and Wilmington will be a co-op for the first time this year. Their season-opener is Saturday, 4 p.m. against Woburn at the Stoneham Arena.

No more water from Crystal Lake?

WAKEFIELD – Crystal Lake’s days of providing drinking water for Wakefield may be coming to an end, thanks to new, more stringent federal water-quality regulations.        

New standards on acceptable levels of substances known as “PFAS” will likely force Wakefield to move entirely to the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) and relegate Crystal Lake to an emergency water source only.
