Active as a volunteer at Winchester Hospital

STONEHAM — Catherine Veronica (Gareri) “Kay” Viglione, 93, of Stoneham died Saturday, Oct. 3, at Kaplan Family Hospice House after a brief illness.
Born in Cambridge, she was the daughter of the late John and Rose (Sacco) Gareri. She had been a Stoneham resident and member of St. Patrick Parish since 1957. In her earlier years, Kay was involved in her church’s Christian Family Movement, the Mother’s Club and was a Cub Scout den mother.
After her children were grown, she spent 32 years as a volunteer at Winchester Hospital, serving 12 years as co-chair of the volunteer board.
Kay is survived by her seven children: Patricia Hardacker and her husband Wayne, Richard Viglione, Charles Viglione, Edward Viglione and his wife Margy, James Viglione and his wife Judi, Julie Theriault and Ann Marie Viglione and her husband Joseph Jutras of Stoneham. Kay is also survived by her sister Nancy Mueller and her husband Edward; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Walter, daughter Cathy and siblings Peter Gareri, Rosemary Martin, Jack Gareri and Joseph Gareri.
Her funeral was held from the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (Route 28), Stoneham on Tuesday, Oct. 6, followed by a funeral Mass celebrating Kay’s eternal life in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham. Interment was in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.
