WAKEFIELD — Charlotte Margaret Heger, 92, a longtime Wakefield resident, died Sunday, Oct. 4, at MelroseWakefield Hospital.

Born in Salem on July 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edith (Jones) Edmonson.

Charlotte raised her family in Wakefield with her former husband, the late Hans Heger. She worked many years as a manager for Dynamic Research in coordination with NASA. After retirement, she moved to Lakeland, Fla., and worked part-time as manager at two golf courses. Charlotte was a member of the Wakefield Elks and was also very active in the Wakefield Senior Center. She was a great cook and was famous for her corned beef and cabbage.

She is survived by her son, Stephen Heger, and his husband, Michael McCarthy, of Ogunquit, Maine; her daughter, Shirley Hale, and her partner, Jack Walters, of Loudon, N.H.; her partner of 20 years, Thomas Campbell of Wakefield; and her two grandsons, Seth Hale and his wife, Pennie, of Bowdoin, Maine, and Tyler Hale and his wife, Kelsea, of Northwood, N.H. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yael Ave., Wakefield, on Thursday, Oct. 8,  from 11 a.m.-1p.m., followed by a graveside service at the Forest Glade Cemetery, Lowell Street, Wakefield, at 1:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

COVID-19 guidelines will be in effect. Those attending visitation should wear a mask and are asked to kindly pay their respects to the family and exit the building to allow for all visitors to greet the family. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
