MELROSE — Following are updates from City Hall.

Mayor Grigoraitis will hold Office Hours Oct. 10 

Mayor Jen Grigoraitis will hold In-Person Office Hours for Melrose residents on Thursday, October 10 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Milano Senior Center, 201 W Foster St. This is a great opportunity for Melrose residents who want to share their ideas, feedback and requests in a personal conversation with the mayor. Please email mayorsoffice@cityofmelrose.org to make an appointment. Appointments are booked on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Pay-as-you-throw trash bags available for purchase 

To accommodate residents who occasionally generate more trash than can fit in the 64-gallon trash cart, the City of Melrose has partnered with WasteZero to provide Melrose residents the ability to purchase overflow trash bags The bags are sold in rolls of five (5) for $10 at Shaw’s, 34 Essex St. and Richdale Convenience, 54 W Wyoming Ave. Other local retailers are expected to offer official overflow bags soon. 

Please securely close and place the bags curbside next to your regular trash barrels by 7 a.m. on your regular curbside collection day. Trash not placed in official 64-gallon carts or official Melrose overflow bags will not be collected. 

Tree work on Main Street will Continue Sept. 29 and Oct. 6 

The Department of Public Works will perform routine tree pruning work along Main Street between Upham Street and East/West Foster Street on Sunday, September 29, 2024, and Sunday, October 6, weather permitting. Main Street will be closed to vehicles from approximately 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Active work hours will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. during which DPW vehicles and equipment will be used. This critical work will involve the removal of dead branches, and trimming of branches near windows, building facades and utility lines. Flu vaccines available on Oct. 9 and Oct. 29 

The Melrose Department of Health and Human Services will offer free influenza vaccinations at the City-Wide Flu Clinic on Wednesday, October 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. and at the Mayor’s Senior Resource Fair on Tuesday, October 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both events will be held at Melrose Memorial Hall, 590 Main St. 

The regular Sanofi Pasteur Fluzone vaccine will be available for anyone over 5 years old and the high-dose vaccine will be available to individuals 65 yrs. and older.
