MELROSE — Claire M. (Flannery) Hanson, 88, of Melrose, died at her home on May 10.
Claire was born and raised in South Boston and was a graduate of the Gate of Heaven High School. She resided in South Boston until 1954 and the past 63 years in Melrose.
Claire was a homemaker and member of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose for over 60 years. She loved bingo, going out to dinner and was very proud of her Irish and South Boston heritage. Claire enjoyed traveling with her family to Ireland, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida, Bermuda, Nova Scotia, Canada and traveling all over to United States.
Claire loved her grandson Jason and her family was the most important part of her life.
She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Hanson Sr. for 45 years. She was the loving mother of Karen A. Hanson, David K. Hanson, both of Melrose, Barbara J. Hanson-Clough of Boston and the late John E. Hanson Jr. and Kathleen M. Hanson. She was the cherished grandmother of Jason P. Clough of North Carolina. Caring sister of Alfred Flannery and his late wife Lorraine of South Boston and the late Elaine Eastman and her late husband Paul. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visiting hours were held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Monday, May 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m.
Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
