Trethewey-obit-webMELROSE — Clifton L. “Cliff” Trethewey Jr., 51, a resident of Melrose, passed away unexpectedly at home on Monday, February 20.

Born in Worcester on December 22, 1965, Cliff was raised in Westborough and graduated from St. John’s High School in Shrewsbury, Class of 1984. He matriculated at Nichols College where he lettered in football and lacrosse and received his bachelor’s degree in 1984.

Cliff worked as a manufacturer’s rep in the heating and cooling industry.

Most importantly, Cliff was a devoted father, brother and son. He cherished his children, and loved attending his daughter’s concerts or son’s basketball games. From a young age, Cliff loved all sports. In particular, he was an avid skier, and loved golfing at New Seabury Golf Club.

Growing up spending summers in Popponesset with his family, he loved spending time on the beach, and had lifelong friendships from the beach community. With his quiet, soft spoken manner, and love for laughter, Cliff was easy to like and hard to forget. He will be lovingly remembered by everyone he came into contact with.

Cliff was the devoted father of Josephine, Carl and Clifton Trethewey, all of Billerica. He was the cherished son of Clifton L. Trethewey, Sr. and Jane (Gilmore) Trethewey of Popponesset. He was the loving brother of Michael Trethewey of Boston. He was the former husband of Lauren Trethewey of Billerica. He was the caring uncle of Michael, Sarina, and Averi Trethewey, all of Winchester.

Relatives and friends gathered in honor and remembrance of Cliff during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Friday, February 24, from 4-8 p.m., and again on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. before leaving in procession to St. Mary’s Church, Herbert Street, Melrose for his funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cliff Trethewey Children’s Education Fund, c/o Morgan Stanley, Attn: Michael Trethewey, 125 High St., Boston, MA 02111.
