MELROSE — Corazon “Cora” (Arca) Martell passed away peacefully on June 26 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in the Philippines on June 19, 1936 to Rufina and Pedro Arca.
Corazon was the beloved wife of the late Douglas Martell with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. They met while he was stationed in the Philippines where they started their lovely life’s journey together. They encountered many obstacles in their life but their love endured through all the hardships. Corazon was a homemaker who adored taking care of her children and lovingly enjoyed being called Lola to her grandchildren. She had many passions: gardening, photography, traveling, but her greatest passion was journaling. She was often seen documenting her life’s journey at any given time.
Corazon was predeceased by her husband Douglas in 2018. She leaves behind four children: Gloria Sherman and her husband Charles; Douglas Martell and his wife Susanne; Grace Rossino and her husband Joseph; and Dennis Martell and his wife Kelley. Along with her children, she leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Alyssa Rossino, Ashley Rossino, Lauren Sherman, Michael Rossino, Kyle Martell, Steven Sherman, Ryan Martell, McKenzie Martell, Maegan Martell, Samuel Rossino and Margo Martell. She also leaves behind one sister, Floria; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and many extended family and friends abroad.
Visitation will be held at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 W. Foster St., Melrose on Saturday morning, July 1 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial for Cora will follow at the Incarnation Parrish, 425 Upham St., Melrose at 11 a.m. with a burial at Wyoming Cemetery immediately following the service.
