LYNNFIELD — The cross-country teams each celebrated Senior Day with a victory over Pentucket on Oct. 18.
“Both the boys’ and girls’ teams came away with big wins,” said Pioneers head coach Bill Wallace.
Before the final meet of the Cape Ann League season began, the Pioneers honored 18 seniors and their families during a Senior Day ceremony. Captain Katie Cash, captain Olivia Goguen, captain Viola Wertz and senior Emilie Bell were the girls’ team’s seniors who were honored with their families.
Captain Ryan Nguyen, captain Jake Martinho, and fellow seniors Paul Capodilupo, Davius Chan, Brennan Curley, Greg Marenghi, Jack Marenghi, Drew MacKinnon, David Mower, Dylan Murphy, Cameron Sullivan, Srivanth Tudi, Owen White and Ryan Zannella were the boys’ team’s seniors who were recognized along with their families.
The girls’ team (3-2) defeated Pentucket 25-32.
Junior Gabby Bottaro finished third during the meet (20:09). Viola Wertz placed second overall (20:18). Junior Caitlin Buoniconti secured a fifth place finish against Pentucket (21:29). Junior Kaila George earned a sixth place finish during the meet (21:32). Cash placed seventh overall (21:43).
Sophomore Shea Moore was 10th overall (22:20). Freshman Maeve Wertz secured an 11th place finish during the meet (22:55). Goguen finished 14th overall (23:54). Junior Lily White placed 16th during the meet (24:06). Sophomore Siri Tudi was 19th overall (25:20).
Boys’ meet
The boys’ team (2-3) defeated Pentucket 22-39.
Captain Shea McCarthy finished second overall (16:34). Ryan Nguyen placed third during the meet (16:47). Sophomore Dylan Nguyen was fourth against Pentucket (17:00). Sophomore Nick DeGennaro secured a sixth place finish (18:03). Owen White was seventh overall (18:11).
Srivanth Tudi placed eighth during the meet (18:14). Jack Marenghi earned a ninth place finish against Pentucket (18:20). Freshman Liam Gardner finished 11th during the meet (18:34). Sophomore Mike Marenghi was 18th overall (20:16). Sophomore Jacob Book placed 19th during the meet (20:22).
CAL Open Saturday
The cross-country teams will complete in the CAL Open at the Wrentham Development Center, beginning at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
