WAKEFIELD — A police officer in his cruiser at Main and Greenwood streets was rear-ended by another vehicle at about 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. According to police, the cruiser was on Main Street stopped at a red light when it was hit from behind by a 2003 Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda was issued an unspecified citation.

Just before 1 p.m. on Saturday, police assisted drivers with the paper exchange after a minor two-car accident at Main and Chestnut streets.

Police assisted motorists with the exchange of papers after a minor two-car accident at Water Street and Columbia Road at around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, a 26-year-old man listed as “homeless” was arrested on an active warrant out of Somerville District Court after a police officer who knew of the warrant spotted the man on Lake Street.

At about 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Police, Fire and Action Ambulance responded to a 911 call after a car hit a utility pole on Audubon Road. The driver of the 2000 Ford Mustang will be summonsed to court on unspecified charges. (The police report was not completed at press time.) The Fire Department spread absorbent to soak up spilled vehicle fluids and remained on the scene until the Light Department responded to check on the pole.

Police assisted drivers with the exchange of papers after a minor two-car accident at Nahant and Main streets at about 4 p.m. on Sunday.

At about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, police arrested a 29-year-old Tewksbury man on Albion Street on outstanding warrants out of Woburn and Lawrence district courts.

The Fire Department responded to 34 calls over the weekend, 17 of which were for medical aid.

At 4:15 p.m. on Friday, firefighters went to the area of Old Nahant Road for a report of heavy smoke in the area. It turned out to be coming from a resident’s wood stove.

At about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, the Fire Department assisted Melrose FD at a two-alarm fire on Main Street in that city.

Firefighters also responded to several accidental fire alarm activations caused by cooking or burnt food. There were also a number of fire alarm system malfunctions that drew Fire Department responses over the weekend.
